Preparing for Surgery

Preparing for Surgery

Your healthcare team at Wayne Memorial Hospital is dedicated to providing exemplary, compassionate care.  Comprehensive preparations for surgery depend on your diagnosis and will be discussed with you by your physician.  However, the following are some general guidelines to help guide you through the surgery and recovery process.  Please share this information with your family and loved ones, as they are an important part of your preparation and recovery.

Helpful Guidelines

Pre-Surgery Exams

Based on your doctor’s request, you may need to have lab tests completed prior to having surgery.  These tests may involve a variety of diagnostic exams, to include blood work, a urine test, or x-rays.

Registration and Insurance

If your surgery is covered by insurance, please have the following information available:

-       Name of insurance company

       Group and ID number

-       Telephone number to verify coverage

-       Address to mail claims

-       Referral, precertification or authorization numbers

Advance Directives

You have the right to make choices about your treatment known in advance or to name someone you trust to make medical decisions for you.  A brochure covering Patient Rights and Advance Directives will be provided to you.
