Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a type of nuclear medicine procedure that measures metabolic activity of the cells of body tissues. PET Scans can effectively pinpoint the source of the most common cancers, heart, and neurological diseases which, in some cases, eliminates the need for redundant tests and unnecessary diagnostic surgical procedures. PET Scans are also used in conjunction with CTs and MRIs to provide more definitive information about a malignant tumor or lesion.
