JL's Story

A State-of-the-Art Knee Replacement Will Carry Him to the Finish Line.

Football, baseball, basketball, motorcross – there weren’t many sports that JL Gurley didn’t participate in. And every one of them took its toll on his knee.

On November 29, 2010, JL had his right knee surgically repaired through a procedure known as unicompartmental knee replacement. This unique approach combines a titanium joint prosthetic with some of JL’s own ligaments for greater comfort and mobility.

Board-certified orthopedic surgeon David A. Rockwell, MD, performed the procedure at
Wayne Memorial Hospital using time-tested techniques and the absolute latest in joint replacement technology.

Since running and contact sports are no longer an option, JL rides his bike 15 miles once or twice a week. Sometimes, on a Sunday afternoon he’ll pedal more than 30 miles. But, that’s not enough. He’s looking for a new challenge.
