Men should have their PSA checked every year. This is the blood marker for prostate cancer, and the test is easy.
Hospital Patients Now Have Easier Access to Their Records
This summer Wayne Memorial Hospital launched myWayneHealth, a secure Internet patient portal that allows hospital patients to access their medical records from their computer, tablet or smart phone, at no additional cost to them.
Both inpatients and outpatients can access their records electronically.
One goal is to encourage communication between patients and their health care providers. The patient portal helps patients keep up with their medications, allergies, conditions, hospital visit history and discharge instructions on a secure site that’s available any time they need access to it. It allows them to keep their medical information up to date and in one place, and they can share their current and correct information with all their providers and family members when needed.
Before the patient portal was in place, patients had to return to the hospital to request copies of their medical records.
So how does the Patient Portal work?
First, you must have your Medical Record number to get started. A unique Medical Record number is provided to each hospital patient at the time of discharge.
Next, go to www.waynehealth.org, the hospital’s website. Find the orange button labeled Patient Portal at the top right-hand side of the page and click once to go to a page titled About the Patient Portal. There you will see an example of how information appears in the portal as well as a description of what information is available. There’s also a list of Frequently Asked Questions.
At the top of the same page is a gray box with links where patients can click to:
• Enroll if they are using the Patient Portal for the first time
• Log into their portal if they have already enrolled
• Go directly to the FAQ page Patients also can update their personal information while in the portal. The portal is only available to patients 18 and older.
The bottom line? Improved quality of care for our patients by getting them involved in their own healthcare.
Please contact us at email@example.com or 919.587.4200 if you have questions or need help with your Patient Portal. The portal is continually being expanded and updates will be announced periodically.
