At Wayne Memorial Hospital, volunteers are an essential part of our healthcare system. It is their caring and generous spirits that make a difference every day. Each year, over 140 compassionate volunteers donate over 20,000 hours serving as liaison between families and staff to lower anxiety levels, collating and filing documents, working in the gift shop, or serving as a guide to our guests. From customer service duties to clerical support, schedules are very flexible and the rewards are plentiful.
Healthy Benefits Enhancing the experience for our patients and their families can mean healthy rewards for you as well. It is well documented that volunteers help themselves to better overall health while helping others. Research has shown a significant connection between volunteering and good health. Volunteers have greater longevity, higher functional ability, lower rates of depression, and less incidence of heart disease.
Whether you’re a retiree with extra time or someone wanting to give back to our community, you too can make a difference.
