Surgical Services encompasses five departments all located on the ground floor within the hospital: Eastern Regional Surgery Center (ERSC), Surgery, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Endoscopy, and Central Sterile.
ERSC, Surgery, PACU areas primary function is care of the surgical patient, both Inpatient & Outpatient, from the pre-operative phase through recovery and discharge. The ERSC department also preps patients who are receiving care in the Interventional Radiology department and Lithotripsy.
The Endoscopy department provides both Inpatient & Outpatient diagnostic & therapeutic exams and treatment through but not limited to Colonoscopy, Gastroscopy, PH studies, and ERCP’s.
Central Sterile provides indirect patient care through preparation and sterilization of surgical trays and instruments primarily for surgery but also for other areas providing treatments requiring sterile instruments.
All of these departments are comprised of highly skilled staff expert in their field. Many of the staff has certifications specific to their field of expertise in addition to the mandatory licensure or certifications. Some of these certifications are Certified Surgical Technologists (CST), Certified Central Sterile Technicians (CCST), Certified Perioperative Nurses (CNOR), and RNII & RNIII (Hospital Clinical Ladder).
Anesthesia Services, independent of Surgical Services, is an integral part of the services provided within the surgical departments. The delivery of anesthesia is accomplished by Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists with oversight by the Anesthesiologists Providers.
