Cardiac Rehabilitation is a multiple-intervention program that deals with all aspects of rehabilitation including medical, psychological, dietary, vocational, and exercise interventions. This comprehensive approach is used to address the multi-faceted needs of the patients with heart disease. The cardiac rehabilitation program at Wayne Memorial Hospital is a state-certified, medically directed program for individuals who have had a recent heart attack, heart surgery, ongoing angina (chest pain) or other cardiac event.
The program consists of a total of 36 sessions, meeting three days per week. Classes are about 90 minutes each. Medicare and most insurance companies cover almost all of the cost involved except for deductibles and co-pays.
The benefits of cardiac rehab are many, but here are a few:
Reduction in mortality
Improvement in heart health and nutrition knowledge
Improvement in exercise tolerance
Improvement in symptoms
Improvement in blood lipids
Improvement in psychosocial well-being and reduction of stress
Reduction in cigarette smoking
